Collection: 5.0 mL Blood in a Gold Top Tube.
Pediatric volume: 1 mL.
Unacceptable conditions: Grossly hemolyzed specimens.
Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 7 days; Frozen: 3 months

 

Notes: 

Clinical Indications: The determination of transferrin is used for diagnosing latent and manifest iron deficiency and iron overload. Transferrin is a negative acute phase protein, i.e. its concentrations are low during inflammatory and malignant disease.

Reference Interval: 

200-360 mg/dL
