Ascitic fluid to serum LDH ratio is approximately 0.4 in uncomplicated ascites
In spontaneous bacterial peritonitis, the LDH ratio approaches 1
LDH ratio > 1.0 suggests that LDH is being produced in or released into the peritoneal cavity, usually because of infection, bowel perforation, or tumor

Pleural

Pleural fluid to serum LDH ratio ≤ 0.6 or pleural fluid LDH < 2/3 the upper limit of normal serum LDH are consistent with transudative processes
