Semi-Quantitative Indirect Fluorescent Antibody (IFA)

Specimen Requirements: 

Collection: 4.0 mL Blood in a Gold Top Tube.
Pediatric volume: 0.5 mL.
Unacceptable conditions: Grossly hemolyzed, or severely lipemic specimens
Stability: After separation from cells: Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: 1 year (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)



Reflex Criteria: Negative- No further testing is done. Positive - Semi-Quantitative IFA titer is performed at an additional charge.

Clinical Indications: Centromere antibody is present in 80-90% of individuals with CREST variant scleroderma. This antibody is also seen in 30% of Raynaud patients, 12% of patients with mixed connective-tissue disease, diffuse scleroderma, interstitial pulmonary fibrosis, primary biliary cirrhosis, and in a smaller percent of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and RA.
