Clinical Indications: Testing for IgE antibodies may be useful to define the specific allergen responsible for disease and/or anaphylactic episode or to confirm sensitization to particular allergens prior to beginning immunotherapy. The correlation of allergy laboratory results with clinical history and in vivo reactivity to specific allergens is essential. A negative test may not rule out clinical allergy or even anaphylaxis.
