Specimen Requirements: 

Collection: 5.0 mL Blood in a Gold Top Tube.
Pediatric volume: 3.0 mL.

 

Notes: 

Includes HBsAg, Anti-HBc total, and Anti-HBs.

Clinical Indications: Used to determine viral load in HBV infected patients and monitor response to therapy. Positive HBV DNA PCR correlates with HBeAg positivity. HBsAg, which is produced in great excess, may be more sensitive for active replication than HBV PCR.

Changes in HBV viral load of 0.5 log10 or more are considered significant.
