Specimen Requirements: 

Collection: 6.0 mL Blood in a Lavender Top Tube.
Pediatric volume: 4.0 mL
Test requires samples containing >1,000 copies/mL of HIV-1 RNA.
Transport: Ship frozen on dry ice.
Handling: Separate plasma from cells within 6 hours. Transfer 4 mL plasma to tube and freeze.
Unacceptable conditions: Serum. Heparinized specimens

 

Notes: 

Clinical Indications: To determine drug resistance mutations and guide therapy in patients with documented HIV-1 infection.

Submit most recent viral load and collection date. May not detect minor HIV-1 populations
