Specimen Requirements: 

Collection: 2.7 mL Blood in a Blue Top Tube.
Pediatric volume: 2.7 mL.
Draw two (2) full 2.7 mL tubes for lupus anticoagulant work up, including dilute RVVT.
Transport: Whole blood may be transported at ambient or refrigerated temperature. Separated plasma, not yet frozen, may be transported at refrigerated temperature, while frozen plasma should be sent on dry ice to prevent thawing in transit.
Unacceptable conditions: QNS; Overfilled; Clotted

 

Notes: 

Reflex Criteria: DRVVT test auto reflex to PT/PTT. Abnormal DRV Screen ratio >1.20 auto reflexes further DRV Confirm and Normalized ratio, but only Normalized ratio will be reported on patient chart.

 Abnormal results reflex to an MD interpretation.

Clinical Indications: Test for Lupus Anticoagulant. Consider for evaluation of prolonged PTT that does not correct with mixing study.

This test is one piece of the lupus anticoagulant work up and is not performed as an individual test. Three tubes are required for the complete work up.
