Twice/week, more frequently if community B19 activity

Specimen Requirements: 

Collection: 2.0 mL Blood in a Gold Top Tube.
Pediatric volume: 1.0 mL

 

Notes: 

Positive IgM suggests active or recent infection. Patients who present early in infection (e.g. aplastic crisis or with petechial rashes) or who are immunosuppressed, may be antibody negative. In these cases, parvovirus B19 PCR should be ordered.

Note: All IgM assays can give false positive results. Seroconversion of IgG can confirm acute infection.
