Clinical Indications: Testing for IgE antibodies may be useful to define the specific allergen responsible for disease and/or anaphylactic episode, to confirm sensitization to particular allergens prior to beginning immunotherapy. The correlation of allergy laboratory results with clinical history and in vivo reactivity to specific allergens is essential. A negative test may not rule out clinical allergy or even anaphylaxis.
