Methodology: 

Clotting, with and without added phospholipid

Schedule: 

2-3 times/week

Specimen Requirements: 

Collection: 2.7 mL Blood in a Blue Top Tube.
Pediatric volume: 2.7 mL.
Draw two (2) full 2.7-mL blue top tubes for complete lupus anticoagulant work up, including phospholipid neutralization
Transport: Whole blood may be transported at ambient or refrigerated temperature. Separated plasma, not yet frozen, may be transported at refrigerated temperature, while frozen plasma should be sent on dry ice to prevent thawing in transit.
Unacceptable conditions: Overfilled; QNS; clotted

 

Notes: 

Reflex Criteria: PHOSN test auto reflex to PT/PTT. Abnormal result reflexes to an MD interpretation.

Clinical Indications: Test for Lupus Anticoagulant.

This test is one piece of the lupus anticoagulant work up and is not performed as an individual test. Three tubes are required for the complete work up.
