Specimen Requirements: 

Collection: 2.7 mL Blood in a Blue Top Tube.
Handling: Must be an uncentrifuged dedicated tube that is drawn from a peripheral stick. Preferably 2 tubes should be submitted for analysis. Specimens must be maintained at room temperature..
Unacceptable conditions: QNS, Clotted, centrifuged specimen, frozen or refrigerated,
Stability: 4 hours

 

Notes: 

Clinical Indications: Screening test for evaluation of suspected qualitative platelet disorders. Not indicated for routine pre-operative screening.

PFA-100 recommended instead of bleeding time as screening test for suspected platelet-type bleeding disorders. Full platelet aggregation studies available for further characterization of qualitative platelet disorders.
