Specimen Requirements: 

Collection: 5.0 mL Blood in a Gold Top Tube.
Pediatric volume: 1.0 mL.
Unacceptable conditions: Grossly Hemolyzed
Stability: Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: 6 months (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)

 

Notes: 

Clinical Indications: Antibodies to RNP occur in approximately 50% of patients with lupus erythematosus (LE) and in patients with other connective tissue diseases, notably mixed connective muscle disease (MCTD). MCTD is often characterized by high levels of RNP antibodies without detectable Sm or double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) antibodies.
