Specimen Requirements: 

Collection: 5.0 mL Blood in a Gold Top Tube.
Pediatric volume: 1 mL.
Unacceptable conditions: Grossly hemolyzed specimens.
Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 7 days; Frozen: 3 months

 

Notes: 

Clinical Indications: Elevated serum levels of monoclonal free light chain are associated with malignant plasma cell proliferation (eg. multiple myeloma), primary amyloidosis and light chain deposition disease.

Reference Interval: 

Serum Kappa:    0.33-1.94 mg/dL
Serum Lambda:   0.57-2.63 mg/dL
Kappa/ Lambda Ratio: 0.26-1.65
