Notes: 

For diagnosis of acute primary CMV infection in seronegative patients, as a supplement to viral load tests. Serology is not useful to detect active CMV infections in seropositive patients. IgM should always be ordered with IgG.  IgM should be high and IgG should be negative or low.

 

A falsely positive CMV IgM can be seen with other infections. Thus active infection is best diagnosed by PCR not IgM.

Reference Interval: 

 IgM- Not detected. IgG- Seropositivity increases with age.
