Specimen Requirements: 

Collection: 20.0 mL Urine in a Yellow Top Tube - Urine.
Pediatric volume: 6 mL.
For BD urine collection kits, submit 2 plain yellow top urine tubes.
Stability: Ambient 48 hours; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 1 month

 

Notes: 

Reflex Criteria: If a discrete electrophoresis band is identified, an Immunofixation electrophoresis may be performed at an additional charge.

Clinical Indications: In urine, the total protein concentration, the electrophoretic pattern, and the presence of a monoclonal immunoglobulin light chain may be characteristic of monoclonal gammopathies such as multiple myeloma, primary systemic amyloidosis, and light chain deposition disease.
