Specimen Requirements: 

Collection: 2.7 mL Blood in a Blue Top Tube.
Pediatric volume: 2.7 mL.
Draw one (1) full blue top tube.
Tube must be full.
Transport: Whole blood may be transported at ambient or refrigerated temperature. Separated plasma, not yet frozen, may be transported at refrigerated temperature, while frozen plasma should be sent on dry ice to prevent thawing in transit.
Unacceptable conditions: QNS; Overfilled; clotted

 

Notes: 

Reflex Criteria: Protein C Functional auto reflex to PT/INR. Abnormal results reflex to MD interpretation.

Clinical Indications: One test in a hypercoagulable panel. May be affected by warfarin, liver disease, DIC, thrombosis.

May be combined with Antithrombin testing; if other tests are needed, additional tube(s) should be drawn.
