Specimen Requirements: 

Collection: 2.7 mL Blood in a Blue Top Tube.
Pediatric volume: 2.7 mL.
Draw one (1) blue top tubes
Transport: Whole blood may be transported at ambient or refrigerated temperature. Separated plasma, not yet frozen, may be transported at refrigerated temperature, while frozen plasma should be sent on dry ice to prevent thawing in transit.
Unacceptable conditions: QNS; Overfilled; clotted

 

Notes: 

Reflex Criteria: Low Protein S activity (<50%) for adult and for other age specific groups, less than the lower limit of normal range will reflex to Protein S Total and Free antigen tests. Abnormal results reflex to MD interpretation. Protein S activity auto reflex to PT/INR.

Clinical Indications: One test in a hypercoagulable panel. May be affected by warfarin, liver disease, DIC, thrombosis.

If combines with HYPER Coag panel collect 3 blue top tubes.
