Specimen Requirements: 

Collection: 5.0 mL Blood in a Gold Top Tube.
Pediatric volume: 1.0 mL.
Unacceptable conditions: Grossly hemolyzed specimens.
Stability: Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: 6 months (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)

 

Notes: 

Clinical Indications: A single positive IgG result is only indicative of exposure to toxoplasma at some point in time (past or recent). The absence of IgG may be helpful in that it usually indicates the absence of infection. However, a negative result could mean either no previous exposure or could also be seen in cases of remote exposure with subsequent loss of detectable antibody.

Reference Interval (OD Ratio): 
        ≤0.90 = Negative 
        0.91-1.09 = Equivocal 
        ≥1.10 = Positive
