Qualitative Particle Agglutination

Specimen Requirements: 

Collection: 3.0 mL Blood in a Gold Top Tube.
Pediatric volume: 1.0 mL.
Unacceptable conditions: Test can not be performed with CSF or other body fluids.
Stability: After separation from cells: Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: 1 year (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)

 

Notes: 

Clinical Indications: If T. pallidum screening test by chemiluminescence is positive, but RPR is negative, a second T. pallidum test (TP-PA) is performed to confirm the specificity of the initial screen.

Equivalent test to FTA-ABS.
