Specimen Requirements: 

Collection: 5.0 mL Blood in a Gold Top Tube.
Pediatric volume: 1.0 mL.
Unacceptable conditions: Grossly hemolyzed specimens
Stability: Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: 6 months (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)

 

Notes: 

Clinical Indications: dsDNA antibodies of the IgG class are an accepted criterion for the diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). They are found in 50-60% of SLE, 20-30% in Sjögren syndrome, 20-25% in mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD), and less than 5% in progressive systemic sclerosis (PSS). If dsDNA antibodies are detected, then dsDNA Antibody IgG by IFA (using Crithidia luciliae) will be performed.
