Lab Section:

Lab Location:

Main Lab

Test ID:

Semi-Quantitative Chemiluminescent Immunoassay (CIA)

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday

4 days

Specimen Requirements:

Collection: 5.0 mL Blood in a Gold Top Tube.
Pediatric volume: 1 mL.
Unacceptable conditions: Grossly hemolyzed specimens.
Stability: Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: 6 months

Clinical Indications: Deaminated gliadin peptide antibodies have a sensitivity and specificity for celiac disease of 84% and 90-98% respectively. Persistence of antibodies after gluten withdrawal is usually indicative of low dietary compliance and lack of intestinal mucosal improvement. Combined use of these antibodies with tissue transglutamine antibodies (which has greater sensitivity) can be especially diagnostically useful.

Reference Interval:

<20 CU = Negative
20-30 CU = Weak Positive
>30 CU = Positive
