Lab Section:

Lab Location:

Main Lab

Test ID:

Chemiluminescence immunoassay

6 hours routine orders

Specimen Requirements:

Collection: 2.0 mL Blood in a Gold Top Tube.
Pediatric volume: 1.0 mL.

Reflex Criteria: Samples positive by the screen will be tested within hours using the rapid Geenius HIV-1 & HIV-2 IgG antibody differentiation test to confirm the presence of HIV IgG antibodies.

If negative or indeterminate for HIV IgG by Geenius test, a sample for RNA will be requested. This algorithm is recommended by the CDC for rapid confirmation of established HIV and for detection of acute infections. Note: HIV-1 Western blot has been discontinued.

The 4th generation HIV-1/2 antigen/antibody combo test detects IgG, IgM and p24 antigen to increase detection of early infections.

This test will be used for rapid antibody requests when Virology is open, since it also detects IgM and p24.
