Collection: 2.0 mL Blood in a Gold Top Tube.
Pediatric volume: 1.0 mL.

 

Notes: 

Clinical Indications: This test can be used to detect primary CMV infection in seronegative patients, as a supplement to viral load tests. It is not useful for detection of active CMV infection in CMV seropositive patients. Always order with IgG to document primary infection- IgM should be high and IgG negative or low.

A falsely positive CMV IgM can be seen with other infections. Thus active infection is best diagnosed by PCR, not IgM.
