           Specimen Requirements: 

Collection: 1.0 mL Cerebrospinal Fluid in a CSF Tube
Pediatric volume: 0.5 mL
SERUM SAMPLE ALSO REQUIRED. Serum specimen must be drawn within 5 days of collection. Specimens must be assayed together for interpretation.
Stability: Ambient: 2 days; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 1 month

 

   Notes: 

Clinical Indications: Screening test for multiple sclerosis. Oligoclonal bands present in CSF, but not in serum, indicate the production of intrathecal IgG. Increased intrathecal Ig synthesis may also occur in other inflammatory CSF diseases
