Collection: 3.0 mL Blood in a Lavender Top Tube.
Pediatric volume: 1 mL.
Draw in a pre-chilled lavender-top tube. Separate and freeze immediately. Do not thaw.
Transport: Frozen.
Unacceptable conditions: Received room temperature • Received refrigerated • Gross hemolysis • Gross lipemia • Grossly icteric
Stability: Room temperature: 8 hours Refrigerated: 8 hours Frozen: 28 days

 

Notes: 

Clinical Indications: Somatostatin is a neurohormone produced in the brain, hypothalamus and gastrointestinal tract. This test is used to diagnose somatostatin-producing tumors. Elevated levels are observed with somatostatinoma, medullary thyroid carcinoma and pheochromocytoma.
