Specimen Requirements: 

Collection: 3.0 mL Serum in Red Top Tube (no gel).
Pediatric volume: 1 mL.
Plain Red, Lavender (K2EDTA), Lavender (K3EDTA), or Pink (K2EDTA).
Unacceptable conditions: Whole blood. Gel Separator Tubes, Light Blue (Sodium Citrate), or Yellow (SPS or ACD Solution).
Stability: Ambient: 5 days; Refrigerated: 5 days; Frozen: 5 days

 

Notes: 

Clinical Indications: Therapeutic monitoring in patients receiving sodium nitroprusside therapy. Screen for thiocyanate poisoning.
