Specimen Requirements:  Collection: 3.0 mL Blood in a Gold Top Tube.
Pediatric volume: 1 mL.
Mark specimens clearly as "Pre-Vaccine" or "Post-Vaccine".
Transport: Store and transport refrgierated.
Handling: "Pre" and 30-day "post" Haemophilus influenzae b vaccination specimens should be submitted together for testing. "Post" specimen should be drawn 30 days after immunization and must be received within 60 days of "pre" specimen..
Unacceptable conditions: Plasma or other body fluids. Contaminated, hemolyzed or, severely lipemic specimens.
Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: 1 year (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)
