Specimen Requirements: 

Collection: 3.0 mL Blood in a SST.
Pediatric volume: 1 mL.
Serum seperator tube.
Transport: Refrigerated.
Handling: Parallel testing is preferred and convalescent specimens must be received within 30 days from receipt of the acute specimens. Mark specimens plainly as "acute" or "convalescent."
Unacceptable conditions: Contaminated, hemolyzed, heat-inactivated, or severely lipemic specimens.
Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: 1 year (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)

 

Notes: 

Clinical Indications: Order IgM and culture to diagnose acute mumps infection. Order Mumps IgG to determine immune status.
