Specimen Requirements: 

Collection: 3.0 mL Cerebrospinal Fluid in a CSF Tube.
Pediatric volume: 1 mL.
If CSF is bloody, centrifuge the sample and separate supernatant from cells prior to freezing the sample.
Unacceptable conditions: Hemolysis.
Stability: Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: 3 weeks (Avoid freeze/thaw cycles)

 

Notes: 

Clinical Indications: Assist in the clinical assessment of demyelination activity for MS.Order in conjunction with oligoclonal bands testing MBP will increase in patients with head trauma or anoxic brain damage.
