Specimen Requirements:  Collection: 5.0 mL Blood in a Lavender Top Tube.
Pediatric volume: 3 mL.
Patient should not be on any medications that may influence pituitary secretion.
Collect and separate as soon as possible. Freeze immediately after separation.
Transport: Frozen.
Unacceptable conditions: Ambient specimens
Stability: Room temperature: Unacceptable Refrigerated: 72 hours Frozen: 6 months


Clinical Indications: In more than 99% of patients with acromegaly there is hypersecretion of Growth Hormone due to primary pituitary tumor. The remaining cases result from GHRH hypersecretion due to hypothalamic or peripheral tumors or rarely, due to neuroendocrine tumors.
