Specimen Requirements:  Collection: 3.0 mL Blood in a Gold Top Tube.
Pediatric volume: 1 mL.
Also acceptable: Red (clot activator), lavender (EDTA), pink (K2EDTA).
Transport: Refrigerated.
Unacceptable conditions: Specimens containing particulate material
Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: Unacceptable; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: Indefinitely (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)
On Floor Storage: Refrigerated


Clinical Indications: Consider HEV for acute viral hepatitis negative for HAV, HBV, and HCV, who have traveled to endemic areas or who are immunosuppressed.

Order HEV IgM to diagnose acute infection.
