Specimen Requirements: 

Collection: 5.0 mL Urine in a Yellow Top Tube - Urine.
Pediatric volume: 2 mL.
Alternative specimens: Random clean catch urine Catheterized urine First void clean catch Random urine collected with sodium bicarbonate Random urine collected with no preservatives
(ok to add preservative after collection)
Transport: Refrigerated (cold packs).
Handling: Random urine collected with 5 grams of sodium carbonate, refrigerated and protected from light during collection is preferred. Collection with no preservative is acceptable, if properly refrigerated and light protected.
Unacceptable conditions: Received room temperature Samples not protected from light Samples with a pH <4.0
Stability: Room temperature: Unacceptable Refrigerated: 7 days Frozen: 30 days
