Specimen Requirements: 

Collection: 3.0 mL Blood in a Blue Top Tube

Pediatric volume: 2 mL.
Lt. blue (sodium citrate). Refer to Specimen Handling at aruplab.com for hemostasis/thrombosis specimen handling guidelines.
Transport: CRITICAL FROZEN. Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered.
Unacceptable conditions: Serum. EDTA plasma, clotted or hemolyzed specimens
Stability: Ambient: 4 hours; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen at -20C: 3 months, at -70C: 6 months

 

Notes: 

Clinical Indications: Decreased levels may be found in congenital deficiency, oral anticoagulation, liver disease, DIC or post surgery. Patients should be off oral anticoagulant therapy for 2 weeks for accurate measurement of Protein C.
