Specimen Requirements:  Collection: 5.0 mL Blood in a Lavender Top Tube.
Pediatric volume: 1 mL.
Whole blood. Yellow ACD also acceptable.
Transport: Refrigerated.
Handling: Specimen must arrive within 72 hours of draw..
Unacceptable conditions: Grossly hemolytic specimens
Stability: Refrigerated (preferred): 5 days; Ambient: 5 days


Clinical Indications: Aiding in the distinction between a reactive cytosis and a myeloproliferative neoplasm, particularly when a diagnosis of polycythemia is being entertained. This is a second-order test that should be used when the test for the JAK2 V617F Mutation Detection, Blood (JAK2) test is negative.
