Specimen Requirements:  Collection: 4.0 mL Blood in a Green Top Tube - Sodium Heparin.
Pediatric volume: 2.5 mL.
Patient should avoid alcohol, coffee, tea, tobacco, and
strenuous exercise before specimen collection. Overnight
fasting is required. Patients should be relaxed in
either a supine or upright position before blood is
drawn.
Handling: Draw in prechilled SODIUM heparin green tube. Patient should be relaxed. Transport to laboratory IMMEDIATELY. Sample must be separated within 30 minutes of draw..
Stability: Ambient: 6 hours; Refrigerated: 6 hours; Frozen: 1 month

Notes: 

Green Top Lithium Heparin Tube (fasting) also acceptable.
